Dr. Ali Mehdi

After earning his dental degree in 2008, Dr. Mehdi pursued advanced hospital-based training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. His training extended well beyond dentoalveolar surgery and implant dentistry, with extensive experience in facial trauma, oral pathology, reconstructive surgery, cleft lip and palate care, and complex craniofacial cases.

Working within a multidisciplinary hospital environment also provided extensive experience alongside plastic and reconstructive surgeons, cosmetic surgeons, neurosurgeons, and other medical and surgical specialists. This collaborative training played an important role in developing his understanding of facial anatomy, surgical reconstruction, aesthetics, tissue management, and the comprehensive care of complex patients.

Today, that foundation shapes a practice dedicated extensively to implant and reconstructive dentistry. Dr. Mehdi's clinical focus includes dental implant surgery, immediate implant placement, advanced bone and soft-tissue grafting, full-arch implant rehabilitation and Teeth-in-a-Day (All-on-X), complex wisdom tooth surgery, and the management of challenging implant cases.

For patients with severe bone loss or situations in which conventional implant therapy may not be possible, his advanced practice also includes zygomatic and pterygoid implants, as well as patient-specific subperiosteal implant solutions. These highly individualized approaches can provide additional treatment possibilities for patients with significant jawbone loss who may previously have been told they have limited options for fixed implant-supported teeth.

Dr. Mehdi integrates CBCT imaging, digital treatment planning, intraoral scanning, guided and navigated surgery, and customized 3D surgical workflows into his practice. These technologies allow treatment to be planned around each patient's individual anatomy and are particularly valuable in complex reconstruction, immediate treatment, and cases involving compromised bone.

While his postgraduate surgical training was completed internationally, Dr. Mehdi is registered to practise as a general dentist in Canada, with a clinical practice focused extensively on oral surgery, implant dentistry, and advanced implant rehabilitation.

Dr. Mehdi approaches surgical and implant care through the broader lens of whole-patient health and wellbeing. He recognizes that successful treatment is influenced not only by the procedure itself, but also by factors such as nutrition, systemic health, healing capacity, and lifestyle.

Where appropriate, he incorporates nutritional guidance, vitamin and health optimization, and evidence-informed adjunctive therapies into the treatment journey, while collaborating with other healthcare professionals when a patient's needs extend beyond dentistry. His goal is not simply to perform successful surgery, but to create the best possible environment for healing, recovery, long-term health, and quality of life.

His hospital-based surgical training included caring for children affected by cleft lip and palate and other craniofacial conditions — experiences that left a lasting impression on his approach to healthcare and his understanding of the profound difference treatment can make in a child's confidence, development, and quality of life.

Throughout his career, he has continued to support charitable initiatives benefiting children and underserved communities, including work connected with SOS Children's Villages and BC Children's Hospital.

More recently, Dr. Mehdi has participated in collaborative efforts aimed at improving access to culturally safe oral healthcare for Indigenous communities across British Columbia. He believes meaningful healthcare extends beyond individual treatment and includes building partnerships that can improve access, education, and long-term health within the communities we serve.

Dr. Mehdi is equally passionate about advancing implant dentistry through education and mentorship. He is the founder of Clinical Catalyst, an educational platform dedicated to continuing education, surgical mentorship, and collaborative learning among dental professionals.

Through lectures, study clubs, hands-on education, case planning, and clinical mentorship, he works with fellow dentists to strengthen their understanding of implant dentistry and surgical treatment. He also collaborates with referring clinicians on complex cases, allowing patients to benefit from advanced surgical care while maintaining an ongoing relationship with their family dentist.

His commitment to lifelong learning extends beyond clinical dentistry. Dr. Mehdi has completed executive education at Harvard University in healthcare leadership and continues to pursue advanced education in implant reconstruction, digital surgery, emerging surgical technologies, and patient-centred care.
